0. About This Site
LIS Links is a collaborative project devoted to the world of Library and Information Science with special reference to
India and is a non-commercial site, supported by our users. A dedicated team of LIS professional regularly scours the
World Wide Web to find links and stories of importance and interesting to LIS and incorporated it into “LIS Links”.
1. Aims and Objectives
Information is expensive and has a central role in today’s society.
In this "LIS Links" we have just made an experiment with the non expensive information, at least to the user who have
desire to go for it. While developing this interface the following aims and objectives where in mind
a) To act as an entry point to all the resources related to Library and Information Science that makes their origin in India, and / or those outside born resources on Library and Information Science of India;
b) To act as a link library of OA journals in LIS;
c) To support the user (students, research scholars, librarians and academicians) with online resources for their all round development;
d) To facilitate the access to evaluated internet based resources right from the basic concepts of LIS to its most recently developed facets 24 hours a day to anyone with World Wide Web access.
e) To select, describe and catalogue high quality resources in LIS;
f) Maximize the Use of Quality Resources: LIS Links encourages the exploitation of publisher’s material by providing links to their quality based web based resources.
2. Coverage
a) Subject: The study only deals with web resources in LIS, resources that devotes to other subjects are not considered.
b) Geographic: The study mainly deals with the web resources related to Library and Information Science that makes their origin in India, and / or those outside born resources on Library and Information Science of India. Provision is also made to provide links to quality resources from around the globe.
c) Open Nature: The study is limited to the web resources that are available free of cost to all users, and without login. However, the journal that has the provision of deferred Open Access (OA) is also considered.
d) Language: Though over the web many translation services are available, absence of an English version of the website complicates international cooperation, and restrict its use to some specific countries only. So the present study limits its scope to English language sites for its wider applicability. The websites that are published in other languages and whose only a portion is available in English is not considered.
e) Time: The websites that make their origin on or before December, 2008 is only considered for inclusion.
f) Maximum Acquisition: The prototype model targets identification of one thousand five hundred resources in LIS in India and after evaluation out of which a maximum of one thousand resources will only be considered for acquisition by way of providing link from the site.
3. Characteristics
We know our user better than others! We value their online time and effort, and so try our best to deliver contents that meets their need exclusively. Just what we aspect from them is to determine their need and accordingly subscribe to our relevant group/forum/blog designed for the purpose.
a) Single Pont of Access : The LIS Links will provide a single point access to a number of web based resources in LIS. The data page establishes links mainly to site that host e-journals, e-books, reference sources in LIS, etc.
b) Evaluated Resources : The sites that are linked from “LIS Links” are evaluated one. So, users would be directed to high quality Internet resources rather than to have evaluated, filter and organize the resources by themselves.
c) Searching Provision: All the resources that are included in LIS Links can be search by category wise i.e Dictionary, Glossary, Encyclopaedia, OA Journals etc. The custom search engines will improves the effectiveness of Internet searching and will serve as a source of information for LIS people. The custom search engine hopes to give the best result than any other search engine again it will narrow down searches to the evaluated resources only.
d) Browsing Provision : All included resources can be browse by DDC number.
e) Only Information : LIS Links is presently host by using the free web hosting services which results low downloading speed. At this stage, if we incorporated some images and graphics tool for eyesight ness the speed will again going down. So, we give up eyesight ness in favor of speed.
f) Daily Updated: The sister projects of LIS Links will bring news stories, along with original writing, interviews and reviews, which are updated frequently, usually 7 days a week.
g) Highest Coverage: We have the highest coverage than any LIS related online service provider in India;
h) No Irrelevant Posting: By subscribing to our sister project (group/forum/blog moderated by us and/or recommended by us) one will be reluctant from receiving unnecessary massage or post and save their online time.
i) No Duplication: By subscribing to our services you will be reluctant to receive duplicate massages of earlier posts. We post or communicate a massage, whatever its importance may be only for single time only.
4. Developer
LIS Links was originally conceived and created by me (Badan Barman) towards last part of 2006. I was assisted by my fellow professionals; you can find details about them over “Contributors of LIS Links”.
5. Updating Policy
To maintain continuity in providing services to the LIS community provision has been made to incorporate the newly origin sites and accordingly attempts will be made to update the whole site in every three month.
6. Disclaimer
a) It is not the purpose of this site to infringe on any author's rights; We just made an attempt to list their valuable contribution(s) that makes its appearance over the public domain, and really have a value to the subject of LIS. If any of the contents referred to are objectionable to any organization or individuals please let us know by e-mail, in order to effect the necessary corrections and modifications at the earliest.
b) This site contains links to external sites. We are not responsible for and have no control over the content of such sites. Probabilities are also there, where one can expect many of the links are going to be 404 (though we will try our best to keep it in low). The site developer can not be held responsible for the content of such external websites, including those that may have been subjected to hacking or cybercrime, such as page hijacking or domain hijacking.
c) Information on this site, or available via hypertext link from this site, is made available without responsibility on the part of LIS Links, or anyone else. LIS Links, and all associates, disclaim all responsibility and liability (including for negligence) in relation to information on or accessible from this site. This should never be considered a good source for reliable information.
d) Resources found in this site are carefully selected, accurately classified and catalogued, and are correct at time of accession.
The LIS Links does not ensure that the information is “correct” but does provide a quality filter enabling users to find relevant (?) documents quickly. So, we are not liable for anything that happens here.
e) This is a public place, and consequently, neither LIS Links, nor the fine people who run the site, can be held responsible for what is written. In theory, people who compiled the information are on my server only.

f) I do the best I can to be accurate, fair and balanced, but I am human and do have certain biases that can shine through from time to time. This work may be another such work. So, I reserve the right to remove any work at any time for any reason that causes me trouble.
